DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS
UNIVERSITY OF BENIN

INTRODUCTION
The part-time programme in Industrial Physics lasting six years (12 Semesters) aims at imparting the fundamental principles of Physics to students and giving them a broad based knowledge including related Science disciplines of Chemistry and Mathematics, exposing them to major advances in Physics and its application to industry.

JUSTIFICATION
The conception for this programme was triggered by the fact borne out by experience to the effect that for very many years, most of the best students in Physics had been those who registered as Education/Physics students. Experience also showed that most of these students came back to do an extra year of study in Physics in order to qualify to seek admission to higher degree programme.
Furthermore, through our experience many persons have had to resign their appointments the industry or seek study leave without pay in order to obtain a degree in Physics .
This programme is therefore proposed to:
i. Offer opportunity to all those with NCE qualifications and who are teaching at the moment to obtain a degree in Industrial Physics.
ii. Give opportunity to those working in the various industries to undertake a Part-time programme in Industrial Physics, which will enhance their job positions.
iii. Encourage all other persons who cannot gain admission into the regular programme for a number of reasons to apply for a position of the programme.

FACULTY
The department of Physics is fully equipped with qualified academic and technical staff in addition to equipped laboratory for practical classes.
